For accurate greenhouse gas (GHG) emission calculations, clients must import large datasets into the platform. Initially, users submitted this data manually. As the customer base expanded and use cases diversified, ClimatePartner implemented a calculating feature with data import functionality to enhance efficiency and scalability.
For example, to calculate indirect GHG emissions from sources not directly controlled by a business, users must provide a detailed overview of all flights taken during the reporting period. The complexity arises from the number of flights varying between ten and tens of thousands—and this is just one type of travel that a company might use.
“The number of records can easily exceed a million and often includes repetitive data. Our initial approach of having users manually enter this extensive data or send Excel files to our customer success managers for import was tedious and not scalable enough. Therefore, we focused on expanding our calculating feature to support mass data uploads,” Dimitar explained.
With the self-service mass upload functionality as a top priority, ClimatePartner's team explored various implementation options. Aligning with their strategic focus on unique selling points, they decided to partner with a technology provider instead of developing this capability in-house.
While evaluating data onboarding solutions, the team found that most providers stored data outside the EU. Given ClimatePartner’s stringent data protection requirements, this consideration quickly made nuvo the preferred choice for GDPR-compliant data imports.
